Talks between Glencore International and the Bolivian government over compensation payments related to the nationalisation of the Vinto smelter are expected to resume shortly, according to BNAmericas. Negotiations were broken off in early September when the government accused Glencore of attempting to intimidate other potential buyers of its tin with threats of legal action.

Glencore has since stated that after Vinto was expropriated, it took no actions designed to blacklist or hinder tin sales from the plant. It also said “this company’s executives share the government’s desire to finish the (negotiation) process quickly.”

Meanwhile Vinto has sold the 2,500 tonnes of tin it had in inventory, local newspapers reported. "There’s a whole range of buyers, some take 80t, others 100t or 500t," the country’s deputy mining minister Pedro Mariobo was quoted as saying.
