Indonesia’s largest tin producer, PT Timah, said that the major earthquake that hit Sumatra today will not affect its tin production. President Director Wahid Usman told Bloomberg News that the company had no plans to shut down any of its operations.
The 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Bengkulu on the west coast of Sumatra, triggering a tsunami warning, but the country’s main tin producing areas of Bangka and Belitung are off the south east coast of the island.
