PT Timah sold around 18,000 tonnes of tin in the January-June period at an average price of $25,000/tonne compared with $19,000/tonne a year earlier, Chief Executive Wachid Usman said Wednesday, Dow Jones reported. The state-owned tin miner sold 19,760 tonnes of tin in the year-earlier period, so this year’s sales have fallen by around 9%.
Wachid told reporters that the company is optimistic it can reach its target to mine 40,000 tonnes this year as the company is moving mining activities offshore Bangka island – its main production base – to avoid illegal miners taking its ore.
