Indonesia’s refined tin exports rose 22% year-on-year in April due to improving weather conditions, an official at the trade ministry told Reuters on Monday. Indonesia, the world’s top tin exporter, shipped 9,708 tonnes of refined tin in April, compared to 7,926 tonnes in April last year, preliminary trade ministry data based on checks on shipments prior to export showed.
“Better weather conditions and a better business climate have pushed exports higher,” said Junaedi, the head of the export of mining products at the ministry. He added that both central and local governments were working better together, to help boost output.
The latest figures follow a strong March, when shipments also topped 9,000 tonnes and were up 38% year-on-year. Cumulative tonnages in January-April amount to 32,278 tonnes, up 16% on the first four months of 2010. The rolling 12-month average of tonnages checked is 96,964 tonnes according to ITRI’s records.
