The Belitung-based smelter PT Yinchenindo Mining Industry (PTYMI) hopes to be the third Indonesian company to be granted a tin export licence by the Ministry of Trade. So far only state-controlled PT Timah and another independent Belitung company, PT Bellitin Makmur Lestari have obtained these licences.

PTYMI was granted an operating permit by the provincial government of Bangka-Belitung yesterday. The provincial government had previously issued seven operating permits to other independent smelters in early February. However PTMYI also already holds a full mining licence, or “KP” from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, which gives it an advantage over the others in the queue for export licences.

The company’s smelter was producing at a rate of around 500 tpm up to last October, producing high purity (up to 99.99% Sn) tin which is marketed by Sumitomo Corporation.

The other company believed to be close to obtaining an export licence is PT Koba Tin.
