Traxys may work with Malaysia Smelting Corporation to develop tin mining in DR Congo, Bloomberg reported. The involvement of Traxys, the Luxembourg-based global trading group, was identified in a contract published on the website of the country’s mines ministry. “We’re looking at doing” a partnership, MSC Chief Operating Officer Chua Cheong Yong confirmed. “We do talk to a lot of parties about a lot of possible partnerships, and Traxys is one of them.”
MSC and DR Congo Mines Minister Martin Kabwelulu announced last month that they were discussing a joint venture in which the Malaysian company would be part of a joint venture taking over the assets of the state mining company Sakima in Maniema, North Kivu and South Kivu provinces. The initial focus is expected to be on Maniema.
