Indonesia’s PT Koba Tin plans to produce 6,620 tonnes of refined tin this year, virtually unchanged from actual output of 6,644 tonnes achieved in 2010. Although Koba’s mine production exceeded its target last year, despite adverse weather conditions, refined metal production was below target as there was less production from the smelting of slags than originally planned.
Production of tin-in-concentrate is forecast to rise from 6,091 tonnes in 2010 to 6,222 tonnes this year. "We are opening some new areas for tin ore mining. Besides, we don’t expect the anomaly in the weather to continue this year," spokesman Dharmansyah Nawawi told Metal Bulletin.
Koba Tin may sell a portion of its output to PT Timah this year, in line with PT Timah’s stake in the company. "We are still finalising the agreement for this," said Nawawi.
