Plans to establish a cap in Indonesian tin production, first proposed more than two years ago, have now been deferred until next year according to Metal Bulletin.
The energy and minerals ministry has decided to wait for the publication of mining and mineral regulations, expected to be out in September, to ensure "consistency" in government decisions, said Bambang Gatot Ariyono, director of coal and mineral energy at the ministry. The regulations are a follow-up to the new mining laws approved in December last year.
The regulations will spell out implementation procedures in four aspects: the country’s areas to be approved for mining; control mechanism on mining procedures; land reclamation; and market control. The tin quota is included under market control in the set of regulations, Ariyono told MB.
