The governor of Bangka-Belitung province told a news media briefing in Jakarta today that a proposal to introduce tin export quotas from next year has been submitted to Indonesia’s president by the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.

The ministry “has submitted the export quota proposal to the president; the quota is for 90,000 tonnes a year”, governor Eko Maulana Ali said, according to a Bloomberg report. The quota proposal was submitted after talks between the province, tin-mining companies and Indonesia’s Trade Ministry and may be implemented next year, pending President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s approval, Eko said. Confirmation of the report by federal government officials was not available.

Eko also said this week that no further export licences are likely to be issued to Indonesian tin smelters, following the granting of a 15th licence to the new YTC/STI plant in Bangka on 21 November.
