Tin exports from Indonesia rose 81% in July from the previous month, provisional trade ministry data released on 6 August showed. Indonesia shipped 9,883 tonnes of refined tin valued at $220.62 million last month, compared with exports of 5,461 tonnes worth $116.8 million in June, according to the ministry data reported by Bloomberg. The July total was 12% higher than in July 2007. We understand that the jump in July reflects the delay of a large shipment of tin by a group of independent smelters which had originally been scheduled for the previous month.

The data is based on reports by surveying companies which check that tin meets export licensing criteria before it can be shipped. In January through July, Indonesia exported 56,303 tonnes of refined tin valued at $1.09 billion, according to the ministry. Cumulative exports in the twelve months to July total 102,361 tonnes.
