The volume of tin checked for export for Indonesia’s trade ministry rose by 30% from the previous month to 11,086 tonnes in March. The latest figure was 29% up on March 2008. The tonnage checked prior to shipment by official surveyors in the first quarter of this year, at 25,958 tonnes, is almost exactly equal to the corresponding period of 2008.

"It looks like the global financial downturn has little impact on demand for Indonesia’s refined tin," Alberth Yusuf Tobogu, export director for industrial and mining products at the trade ministry, told Reuters. About 82%, or 9,141 tonnes, the March tonnage was destined for transhipment via Singapore while the remaining destinations were Malaysia, China, Thailand and South Korea, the trade ministry said.
