The export halt by Indonesian tin producers which began at the start of October has broken down completely this week. A spokesman for Indonesia’s tin association (ITA) told Reuters on Friday its members will ship 7,000 tonnes of tin ingots overseas this week. “Most of the companies are members of ITA. The shipments are to South Korea, China, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Europe,” said Johan Murod, the secretary general of the ITA.
Murod is also a director of PT Bangka Belitung Timah Sejahtera, a group of six private smelters, and had confirmed earlier in the week that BBTS companies were preparing to ship several hundred tonnes themselves. Since the start of October state company PT Timah has continued to export large volumes of tin, while PT Koba Tin made its first shipment last weekend.
