Indonesia is preparing to issue two new tin export licenses, a government official said. That would bring the total to 17 licenced tin exporters, Hartojo Agus Tjahjono, export director of mining and industry products at the Trade Ministry, told Bloomberg in an interview in Jakarta today. He declined to identify the companies, which he said are independent smelters.
The export licencing system came into effect last February and the last company to gain a licence was the new YTC/STI subsidiary PT BGM International in November. The total volume of tin checked for shipment between February 23 and December 31 last year was 86,305 tonnes. 11 of the 15 licenced companies had exported tin up to December, with the biggest volumes coming from the state-controlled PT Timah and the three biggest independent smelters CV DS Jaya Abadi, CV Donna Kembara Jaya and PT Bangka Putra Karya.
