Polish secondary tin producer Fenix Metals has become a member of ITRI. Fenix Metals started its 3,500 tpy capacity refinery in October 2008. It had originally commenced operation in 2004 as a secondary tin smelter and solder producer. The vacuum distillation refinery was installed by the inventors of the technology: Dan-Engineering of Copenhagen, Denmark is the majority shareholder in Fenix, which is a joint venture with Stoop NV of Belgium. Fenix expects to produce some 1,500 tonnes of refined tin this year.
Falcon Metals in Dubai, which is a sister company to Fenix Metals and member of the Dan-Engineering Group, is also planning the installation of vacuum technology at its plant.
ITRI’s member companies produced 224,550 tonnes of refined tin last year, accounting for 70% of total world output.
