Consolidated Tin Mines and its associate company and shareholder Snow Peak Mining will start copper production this month while continuing to make progress in developing the Mt Garnet tin project in Northern Queensland.

In a progress report released at the start of the week the company said that various components of its Definitive Feasibility Study were falling into shape, including the completion of a drilling programme at the Gillian deposit, which will be the main source of tin ore in the early years of operation. A resource update is due in Q2. Metallurgical test work based around roasting to upgrade concentrates is continuing and the company “is continuing discussions with several interested groups over an agreement to establish the reduction roasting operation at an existing off-shore facility.” An environmental management plan has also been completed and lodged.

Meanwhile mining is being re-started at the Surveyor and Baal Gammon copper/base metals mines, which will provide ore for processing at the Mt Garnet ore processing plant now owned by Snow Peak. Consolidated Tin aims to complete a deal to acquire the unit from Snow Peak in Q2 and convert it to process tin ore.
