China was a net importer of tin in August, according to official trade figures released on Monday. During the month China exported 1,205 tonnes of refined tin and alloy and imported 1,364 tonnes.
During the seven months to July 2007 China was a net exporter of almost 13,000 tonnes of tin and alloy, but recent production cuts and stronger demand have subsequently boosted domestic prices and import volumes. Local sources expect that September imports will also exceed exports.
