Reuters reports that the Indonesian trade ministry granted an export licence to anpther independent smelter, CV United Smelting, on 5 March. This is the 18th licence to be granted since the ministry’s scheme to monitor and control exports was put in place on 23 February 2007. Three new licences have been issued in the current year to date.
In a separate report Asia Pulse reported from Jakarta that in the twelve months to February the value of Indonesia’s tin exports amounted to US$1.34 billion. Hartojo Agus Tjahjono, director for exports of mining and industrial products, said during that period 15 companies exported 93,735 tonnes of tin. Our own records indicate that during the twelve months from March 2007 – February 2008 the volume of tin checked for export by the ministry’s surveyors was 101,510 tonnes.
